融合蛋白表达中通常在蛋白N-端或C-端加上特定蛋白或多肽序列作为一种抗原表位（标签蛋白）以便于目的蛋白后续的定位、表达、检测及纯化。Glutathione S-Transferase（即谷胱甘肽S-转移酶，GST）是应用非常广泛的一种蛋白标签，来源于Schistosomajaponicum，分子量为26kDa，可应用于各种融合蛋白，可在大肠杆菌和酵母菌等宿主细胞中表达，用GST亲和柱可简便地分离融合蛋白。 GST标签有助于保护重组蛋白免受胞外蛋白酶的降解并提高其稳定性。
GST抗体可以用于GST融合蛋白后续的表达、细胞内定位，纯化、以及定性或定量分析。
