Origami系列感受态细胞是K-12细胞的衍生而来，在thioredoxin reductase (trxB)和glutathione reductase (gor)基因上同时含有突变，这使得该菌株能够更加高效的在细胞质内生成二硫键，有助于含二硫键蛋白的活性蛋白形成。研究表明使用Origami系列的 感受态细胞表达获得的活性二硫键蛋白比其他同类感受态细胞要多10倍左右。
Origami系列感受态细胞能够用于氨苄抗性质粒的蛋白表达，尤其是和pET32a载体能够完美搭配使用。pET32a载体含有thioredoxin (TRX)融合标签，能够高效提升胞质内蛋白二硫键的形成。
TrxB和Gor基因突变使得质粒能够分别具有卡那和四环素抗性，所以本菌株无法用于卡那和四环素抗性质粒的蛋白表达。为了减少细胞内多种分子间的二硫键的形成，含有TrxB和Gor基因突变的宿主菌被建议用于含二硫键正确折叠 蛋白的高效表达。
