在雌雄异体动物的睾丸中，有时发现外观上和卵母细胞相似的细胞，即称为睾丸卵。这在甲壳类、鱼类、两栖类等动物上是相当多见的，另外通过实验处理，也可以有很高的发生率。严格地说，它是不是卵，虽有争论，但这表示生殖细胞存在着性的两态性。
