These cells will eventually die and lyse when cultured in medium containing interleukin-1 (interleukin 1, IL-1) and therefore can be used in a reliable and sensitive growth inhibition assay for IL-1. Sensitivity to IL-1 is maximal when the cells are derived from subconfluent cultures in logarithmic growth. |
