- 蓝/白克隆筛选：从蓝色未重组克隆中找出重组的白色克隆(1)。
- 肉眼检测β-半乳糖苷酶报告基因转染真核细胞后的表达。
- 免疫学和组织化学方法检测β-半乳糖苷酶的活性。
即用型X-Gal溶液不稳定，经0.22 μm膜过滤除菌。其与IPTG（#R1171）配套用于蓝/白克隆筛选实验。
备注
- 推荐用二甲基甲酰胺或二甲基亚砜配制20 mg/ml的X-Gal储备液。二甲基甲酰胺会溶解某些塑料材料，因此需避免直接将含有二甲基甲酰胺的溶液加入到塑料培养皿中。
- 二甲基甲酰胺有毒，在琼脂糖平板上铺细菌时，必须等含有二甲基甲酰胺的X-Gal溶液完全风干后才能进行。
