    2-巯✕基乙醇是一种硫醇化合物，常用作有机反应中的还原剂。

    应用

    2-巯✕基乙醇广泛用于延迟溶液中的生物化合物氧化。
    BME适用于在聚丙烯✕酰胺凝胶电泳前还原蛋白质二硫键，通常用于SDS-PAGE 的样品缓冲液，浓度为5%。割分子间(亚基之间)二硫键允许蛋白质的亚基在SDS-PAGE上独立分离。切割分子内(亚基内)二硫键可使亚基完全变性，从而使每个肽根据其链长迁移，而不受二级结构的影响。
