Thermo Scientific DTT（DL-二硫苏糖醇；Clelands 试剂）用于稳定含有游离巯基的酶和其他蛋白质。已证明其可恢复这些基团因体外氧化而丧失的活性。DTT 可定量还原二硫键，确保单硫醇处于还原状态。
在最终 0.1 M 浓度下，DTT 也广泛用于破坏 SDS-聚丙xi酰胺凝胶电泳中的蛋白质二硫键。
