亦称缺损性噬菌体或不完全噬菌体。这种细菌噬菌体因在基因中带有缺失或变异，因而即使单独侵染寄主细胞自身也不能增殖。如果在细胞内和其他完全的噬菌体基因组共同存在，则往往可以借助其机能而增殖。
