May function as a cellular oxygen sensor and, under normoxic conditions, may target HIF through the hydroxylation for proteasomal degradation via the von Hippel-Lindau ubiquitination complex. Function: Gustducin-coupled receptor implicated in the perception of bitter compounds in the oral cavity and the gastrointestinal tract. Signals through PLCB2 and the calcium-regulated cation channel TRPM5. Subunit: Homodimer. Subcellular Location: Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Tissue Specificity: Expressed in subsets of taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate epithelium and exclusively in gustducin-positive cells. Post-translational modifications: Glycosylated. Similarity: Contains 2 EF-hand domains. Contains 1 Fe2OG dioxygenase domain.
