Use RAPID'E.coli 2 Agar for the identification and enumeration of generic E. coli and other coliforms in products intended for human or animal consumption, or in environmental samples. RAPID'E.coli 2 Medium uses two chromogenic color reactions, β-D-galactosidase (GAL) and β-D-glucuronidase (GLUC), for the clear identification of E. coli and other coliforms.

Features and Benefits

• Coliforms are GAL+/GLUC- and form blue to green colonies
• E. coli is GAL+/GLUC+ and forms violet to pink colonies

Note: There are a few β-D-glucuronidase-negative strains of E. coli, e.g., E. coli O157. Some serovars of Salmonella and a few species of Shigella possess the enzyme β-D glucuronidase (< 1.5%).
