Interleukin-18 (IL-18) augments natural killer cell activity in spleen cells and stimulates interferon gamma production in T-helper type I cells. Recombinant IL-18 comprises a 157 amino acid fragment (37-193) corresponding to the mature IL-18 protein and is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag.
