Cytokeratin-18 (CK-18) is involved in the uptake of thrombin-antithrombin complexes by hepatic cells. Phosphorylation of CK-18 occurs during filament reorganization. Cytokeratin-18 is involved in the delivery of mutated CFTR to the plasma membrane. Together with KRT8, CK-18 is involved in interleukin-6 (IL-6)-mediated barrier protection. Recombinant human CK-18 is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag.
