Fatty acid binding protein (intestinal) (I-FABP) is involved in triglyceride-rich lipoprotein synthesis. This protein binds saturated long-chain fatty acids with a high affinity, but binds with a lower affinity to unsaturated long-chain fatty acids. Fatty acid binding protein (intestinal) also helps maintain energy homeostasis by functioning as a lipid sensor. Recombinant I-FABP comprises a 132 amino acid fragment (1-132) corresponding to the human intestinal FABP protein and is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag.
