Western 杂交是1979年由美国科学家Stark和瑞士科学家Towbin独立发明的、专门用于检测固定在固相基质上的蛋白质的免疫方法，又叫免疫印迹（immunoblotting）。该方法的是先将蛋白质从凝胶中转移到固相基质（硝酸纤维素膜或尼龙膜）上；再对其进行特异性抗体检测。Western杂交流程图如下：
