背景描述：
Lewis血型系统抗原（Lewis blood group antigen）
Lewis血型系统（Lewis blood system），因红细胞表面一组称为Lewis（Le）抗原的糖蛋白表达而得以命名。Lewis抗原主要在表皮细胞内合成（几乎是内皮细胞来源），以及消化系统也是主要的合成场所。牛奶和尿液内Lewis抗原与相关抗原可能以游离寡糖的形式存在，也有可能以蛋白偶联物的形式存在各种组织内。
Lewis血型抗原的临床意义
肿瘤样本的免疫组化研究显示，肿瘤组织常发现过表达的Lewisx和Lewisa结构。上皮性肿瘤上这类抗原的表达与人的肿瘤进程、肿瘤迁移性扩展、和预后不良反应，以及小鼠的转移潜能有关。sLex和sLea能够与选择素结合，从而参与到细胞黏附和免疫刺激过程，就此可推断表达表达sLex和sLea的肿瘤细胞在转移和免疫避免（Immune avoidance）上会呈现优势。另外，Lewis抗原还能参与移植免疫学研究，资料显示Lea和Leb阴性的移植患者比那些阳性患者的移植后存活时间更短。
