调节性T细胞(Tregs)，曾被称为抑制性T细胞，是T细胞的亚群，可调节免疫系统、维持对自身抗原的耐受、抑制自身免疫疾病。Tregs具有免疫抑制性，可抑制或下调效应T细胞的诱导和增殖。调节性T细胞有多种类型，其中研究最深的的一类表达CD4、CD25和FOXP3(CD4+CD25+调节性T细胞)。免疫系统必须能区分自我和非我。当自我/非我无法识别时，免疫系统会破坏细胞和组织，引起自身免疫疾病。调节性T细胞积极地抑制免疫系统活化、阻止病理性的自身反应如自身免疫疾病。调节性T细胞遗传缺失造成的重度自身免疫综合征(IPEX综合征)表明调节性T细胞在免疫系统中发挥了重要作用。
