描述

Lysozyme is an antimicrobial enzyme that is abundantly present in secretions such as tears, saliva and mucus. Its hydrolase activity leads to the breakdown of the gram-positive bacterial cell wall and lysis of the bacteria.

Recommended Usage
Each lot of this antibody is quality control tested by Western blotting. For Western blotting, the suggested use of this reagent is 0.5 - 2.0 µg per ml for human, and 1.0 - 2.0 µg per ml for mouse and rat. For immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections, a concentration range of 1.0 - 5.0 µg/ml is suggested. It is recommended that the reagent be titrated for optimal performance for each application.

Lysozyme is a 148 amino acid protein with an apparent molecular mass of ~ 16kD.

Function
Lysozyme is expressed in many immune cells including monocytes and macrophages. It plays an important role in innate immunity by hydrolyzing peptidoglycans found in bacterial cell wall and thus destroying the bacteria.
