AF555 由 AAT Bioquest 制造，具有与 Alexa Fluor® 555 相同的化学结构（Alexa Fluor® 是 ThermoFisher 的商标）。它是一种鲜红色的荧光染料。 AF555 染料是水溶性的，在 pH 4 到 pH 10 的范围内对 pH 不敏感。AF555 的 NHS 酯（或琥珀酰亚胺酯）是用于将该染料与蛋白质或抗体结合的最方便的胺反应形式。
