细胞和组织中的具有色素的颗粒状或片状的结构体。特指载色体内所含的对体色生成起作用的颗粒。这些颗粒分为黑色体、酪脂体、类胡萝卜素小泡和反射小板等。在无脊椎动物中，除类似含眼色素的黑色体的颗粒和相当于酪脂体的颗粒外，其他尚缺乏了解，也未进行分类。
