        Nitric oxide (NO) and the related species nitrosothiols, have multiple important physiological and pathological roles in health and disease that have been extensively reviewed elsewhere (1 -6 ). In brief, NO is involved in modulating or mediating host resistance to tumors and microbes, regulation of blood pressure and vascular tone, neurotransmission, learning, neurotoxicity, and control of cellular growth, and differentiation.
