Experimental Strategies in Efficient Transfection of Mammalian Cells: Electroporation

互联网

493
Electroporation is a method which utilizes an electric field to introduce DNA or other macromolecules into cells (For review, see ref. 1 ). When a cell is exposed to a pulse of high electric field, its cell membrane quickly becomes permeabilized. During this permeabilized state, macromolecules from the external medium can enter the cell. Following the removal of the external electric field, the cell membrane gradually repairs itself. In most cases, if the applied field is not excessively strong, the cell can recover.
