        潜在自然植被 potential natural vegetation

        由 R． Tüxen（ 1956）提出的新的植被概念，在一定土地上使代偿植被持续的人为干扰全部停止时，推测现有立地条件可被维持者称为自然植被〔严格说可称为“现有的潜在自然植被”（德， potentiellenatürliche Vegetation heutige）〕例如日本关东地区的低山地带广泛分布着代偿植被的柳杉和栽植的日本扁柏（ Chamaecyparis obtusa），但其立地的大部分是日本冷杉、毒八角（ Illicium religiosum）群落则认为是潜在自然植被。一般来说环境类型如果相同，就认为潜在自然植被和原植被（因而也与现存的自然植被）大致相同。但是，由于受到强烈的人为干扰，能够持续的代偿植被经历过去的漫长岁月而能存在于土地上，其立地显著发生变化，即使人为干扰停止，但与原植彼相同的植被是不可能维持的，推测这种潜在自然植被是与原植被是不同的。
