胸骨 breast bone 两栖类以上的脊椎动物身体腹壁的骨骼，在发生上是由肋骨腹端上下排成一列的软骨原基形成的，后来与左右两侧的肋骨愈合。但两栖类肋骨发生二次萎缩，失去与胸骨的结合。在爬行类以上的动物，若干肋骨与胸骨结合，构成整个胸廓。两栖类与爬行类的胸骨一般始终是软骨组织，不过有一部分已骨化了。在爬行类的龟类和蛇类中不形成胸骨。另外胸骨与肩带呈现密切的接合。
