具有调节其他基因性状功能的基因，称为调节基因。包括决定阻抑物、阻抑物蛋白、其他环状 AMP受容蛋白质等控制性物质结构的基因、阻抑物作用部位的操纵基因、 RNA多聚酶以及它的促进物质的作用部位启动区等等。当这些基因发生突变时，根据突变种类的不同，有的酶量增加，有的酶量减少。
