扁形动物涡虫纲的咽有 2种类型：一种是仅食道壁之环肌和辐射状肌较发达；另一种是摄食时该肌性部分能翻出口外摄取食物，而缩回体内时口与该肌性部分（狭义的咽）之间的薄壁部分成为包裹咽之鞘（咽鞘）。前者称为单咽（例：单肠目）；后者称为复合咽（三肠目）。
