指群体形成的现象，在原生动物、海绵动物、刺胞动物、内肛动物、苔藓虫类、石勃卒（海老鼠）类中有许多例子。不形成群体，仅一个个体虫单独地生活，称为单体生活（ monozoic德 monozoisch， all- einlebend）。
