【背景知识】
胆汁酸是肝脏中胆固醇代谢的终产物，与胆汁的其他成分（如胆固醇、胆红素、磷脂和蛋白质）一起释放到十二指肠。
胆汁酸的重要功能是通过肠道排泄胆固醇，在小肠中吸收脂肪和脂溶性维生素以及刺激肠道蠕动。
每天分泌的大部分胆汁酸在回肠末端被重吸收，通过门静脉输送到肝脏，并再次随胆汁排出。这个过程，也称为肠肝循环，导致每天只有 3-5% 的胆汁酸从粪便中排出。
胆汁酸代谢紊乱可发生在肝肠循环的不同部位：
- 肝细胞中胆汁酸合成受损
- 肝内胆汁淤滞，例如由于胆汁运输中断 - 胆管肝外阻塞
- 肠道中胆汁酸吸收受损
- 肝脏中胆汁酸再摄取受损
- 肝细胞内的细胞内代谢（循环）受损
