在比率钙指标中，呋喃-2和吲哚-1最常用。Fura-2可激发，Indo-1可发射。Fura-2是比值成像显微镜的SHOU选，在比值成像显微镜中，改变激发波长比改变发射波长更为实用。当与Ca2+结合时，Fura-2表现出一种吸收位移，这种位移可以通过扫描300-400nm之间的激发光谱来观察，同时监测约510nm的发射。Fura-2，AM是一种细胞渗透性钙指示剂，具有发射率和紫外光激发能力。这种AM酯可以无创性地装载到活细胞中。
