It is part of the cell antioxidant defense mechanism. Catalyzes the transfer of the glutamyl moiety of glutathione to amino acids and dipeptide acceptors. Alternatively, glutathione can be hydrolyzed to give Cys-Gly and gamma glutamate. Isoform 3 seems to be inactive. Tissue specificity: Detected in fetal and adult kidney and liver, adult pancreas, stomach, intestine, placenta and lung. Isoform 3 is lung-specific. There are several other tissue-specific forms that arise from alternative promoter usage but that produce the same protein. Subunit: Heterodimer composed of the light and heavy chains. The active site is located in the light chain. Subcellular Location: Membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein. 测定都使用贝克曼公司质控品做质量控制，且每天做二个水平的质控。（具体详见生化室内质控SOP） 分析范围： 当标本∶试剂为1∶30时，L-γ-谷氨酰转移酶测定范围：5-3000U/L,超出此范围应稀释后测定，L-γ-谷氨酰转移酶测定一般用生理盐水稀释。
