Non-competitive Δ5-desaturase inhibitor.
Sesamin, commonly found in sesame oil inhibits the biosynthesis of polyunsaturated fatty acids.7 It inhibits the micellar solubility of cholesterol and lowers its levels in the liver and plasma.8 Sesamin inhibits absorption and synthesis of cholesterol8, prevents cardiovascular hypertrophy and has protective role against hypertension induced by deoxycorticosterone acetate salt.9
Application
Sesamin was used as HPLC standard in analysis sesame oil and serum samples.10
