草甸上。带子座的菌核(僵虫)即药材冬虫夏草，含虫草酸，能补肺益肾，止血化痰。虫草属(cordyceps)有130多种，我国有20多种，其中如蛹草菌C．militaris (L．)Link.、凉山虫草(C．liangshanensis Zang．Hu et Liu)、亚香棒菌C．hawkesii Gray．等，它们的带子座的菌核和冬虫夏草有相似的疗效，从蛹草菌的培养物中可得到虫草素。蝉花菌C．sobolifera Hill Berk．et Br．带子座菌核能清热祛风，镇惊明日。
