简称ADH。凡具有促进排泄系统对水分的重吸收，而使水排出减少的抗利尿作用的激素，一般均称抗利尿激素。在脊椎动物常称为加压素（ vasopres－ sin），但哺乳类以外的脊椎动物实际上并非加压素，从作用上来讲其管催产素（ vasotocin）是一种抗利尿激素。一般作用于肾脏的肾小管，而在两栖类则作用于膀胱和皮肤，在膀胱是从尿中促进水分重吸收，在皮肤是从外界促进水分重吸收。无脊椎动物有的也有抗利尿作用的激素，如昆虫的侧心体激素。
