PsbP or 23 kDa protein of oxygen evolving complex (OEC) is a peripheral component of photosystem II located at the lumenal side of the thylakoid membrane. Arabidopsis genome encodes two PsbP proteins, PsbP1 and PsbP2. In Arabidopsis thaliana the loss of PsbP results in inability to grow under phototrophic conditions. The analysis of PsbP-deficient mutants demonstrated that the extrinsic protein PsbP is required for photosystem II core assembly/stability (Yi et al., 2007, J Biol. Chem.) In cyanobacteria PsbP is probably involved in the stabilisation of the charge separation in photosystem II through interaction with the Mn cluster (Sveshnikov et al., 2007, Photosynth.Res.)
