Numerous MBP isoforms are involved in myelin membrane formation and stabilization by interacting with the lipids in the myelin membrane. The major form of MBP is a protein of about 18.5 kDa (170 aa). MBP [1-11] Peptide is the major encephalitogenic epitope in MBP. This peptide has been tested in vivo for induction of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). |
