呈鲜艳蓝色的苯甲烷染料之一种。在聚丙烯酰胺凝胶电泳及醋酸纤维素薄膜电泳中，作为染色剂在分离出的蛋白质的定性或定量分析上广为应用。灵敏度高，而且蛋白质-色素复合物可在较广的浓度范围内具有吸光率与浓度成比例的优点。通常使用的为考马斯亮蓝 R250，另也使用 G250。
