HEPES，中文名为N-(2-羟乙基)哌嗪-N’-(2-乙磺酸)，是可满足于所有生物学研究的最佳缓冲液之一。绝大部分生理pHs下HEPES是一种两性离子有机化学缓冲剂，属于Good’s缓冲试剂之一，pH 6.0-8.5范围内的缓冲能力最强。HEPES应用非常广泛，包括：1）用作细胞培养的缓冲体系，常用工作浓度为10-25 mM；与无机碳酸氢盐缓冲系统相比，在组织或者器官培养中表现出更好的pH控制能力。不像碳酸氢盐，HEPES不为细胞供给营养。只有当需要长时间在CO2培养箱内处理细胞，才会加入培养基内以增强缓冲能力。2）用作两性电解质溶液；HEPES能溶解两性电解质，制备＜1 pH单位宽度的pH梯度以用于等电聚焦电泳实验；3）用作电镜观察蛋白沉积技术合适的缓冲体系，因HEPES不会对金属基板造成负面影响；4）可用作定量和选择性测定抗原-抗体反应的缓冲试剂。
本品为HEPES钠盐，纯度>99%，适用于细胞培养。
