CD82 / KAI-1抗体 Background
The transmembrane glycoprotein CD82, also known as Kangai (KAI)-1, is a member of the tetraspanin protein family and is a metastasis suppressor implicated in biological processes ranging from fusion, adhesion and migration to apoptosis and cell-morphology alterations. KAI1/CD82 is a candidate metastasis suppressor gene and has been indicated in the disease progression of certain solid tumours. KAI1 plays an important role in cell adhesion, invasion and migration of breast cancer cells, in vitro, and is a potential metastasis suppressor gene in breast cancer. The present study was designed to investigate the expression pattern of KAI-1 in the normal endometrium and uterine tumors and to correlate it with the expression of tumor suppressor protein p53. KAI-1 and p53 show inverse expression. The reduced KAI-1 expression may be the result of dysregulated p53 function and could be an important step in the endometrial carcinogenesis. The loss of KAI1/CD82 expression in invasive and metastatic cancers is due to a complex, epigenetic mechanism that probably involves transcription factors such as NFkappaB, p53, and beta-catenin. Thus, CD82 may be a therapeutic approach for the treatment of a variety of metastatic cancers.
