NUP62 associates with the importin alpha/beta complex that is involved in the import of proteins containing nuclear localization signals. Defects in the NUP62 are the cause of SNDI （infantile striatonigral degeneration）， aka infantile bilateral striatal necrosis （IBSN） or familial striatal degeneration.
