Detection of human CD36+ cells by mass cytometryCD36 is expressed on various epithelial and endothelial cells as well as erythrocytes, platelets, monocytes, macrophages, and some macrophage-derived dendritic cells. CD36 functions as a scavenger receptor for long chain fatty acids, oxidized LDL, collagen type I, IV, and V and thrombospondin, as well as for apoptotic cells. CD36 is an early marker of erythroid differentiation.
