SMARCA2 (also known as BRM, or Brahma) is a member of the SWI/SNF family of chromatin remodeling proteins. It functions as an ATPase that uses the energy from ATP hydrolysis to modulate chromatin structure, thereby regulating access to DNA for transcription, replication, and repair. SMARCA2 plays a key role in gene expression regulation, cell cycle control, and differentiation by enabling or restricting transcription factor binding. It is particularly important in developmental processes and tumor suppression. Loss or mutation of SMARCA2 has been implicated in several cancers, including lung cancer and rhabdoid tumors, as well as in certain neurodevelopmental disorders.
