Sjögren Syndrome Nuclear Antigen 1 (SSNA1) is a protein primarily involved in immune regulation and is associated with autoimmune diseases, particularly Sjögren’s syndrome. It plays a role in the nuclear compartment of cells, where it is involved in various processes, including RNA processing and gene expression regulation. SSNA1 has been identified as a key autoantigen in patients with Sjögren's syndrome, a condition characterized by dry mouth, dry eyes, and systemic autoimmune involvement. The presence of antibodies against SSNA1 is a diagnostic marker for the disease. SSNA1 is also thought to play a role in stress responses, particularly in maintaining protein stability and nuclear integrity under conditions of cellular stress.
