应用:靛蓝胭脂红已用于琼脂糖平板中，以研究果蝇幼虫的行为喂养测定。也已用于从小鼠中分离出的肠腺瘤性息肉的肉眼评估。
生化/生理作用:靛蓝胭脂红是一种对比染料，有助于突出粘膜变化。它聚集在缝隙、囊肿和黄斑中，使组织染成蓝色。异常组织保持半透明的粉红色。
