苏丹III在少量硫酸的作用下将其颜色从橙色变为蓝色，而苏丹III的乙jing溶液最适合观察颜色变化现象。H-NMR和UV-Vis光谱研究表明，苏丹红III对硫酸的变色机理是由于硫酸对染料的质子化作用。
Sudan III is mainly used for bacterial staining and paint pigments. Can be used for checking the presence of fats and oils.
Biological staining agents, such as fat and its analogues, are used for staining.
Sudan III changes its color from orange to blue under the action of a small amount of sulfu.ic acid, and Sudan III's ethylene solution is most suitable for obs.erving color changes. H-NMR and UV Vis spectroscopy studies indicate that the discoloration mechanism of Sudan Red III on sulfu.ric acid is due to the protonation effect of sulfuri.c acid on the dye.
