TROP2的过表达和上调与各种肿瘤和癌症有关。其致瘤作用取决于配体结合和细胞内通路的激活。
TROP2参与了JAK/STAT通路、MAP/ERK通路和PI3/AKT通路。它与配体如IGF-1，细胞周期蛋白，Claudin和蛋白激酶C结合。
TROP2还应用于凝胶滴状角膜营养不良(GDLD)的研究。TACSTD2基因突变已被证明在GDLD的发展中发挥重要作用。
