Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a major sexually transmitted disease (STD) that occurs worldwide. The prevalence has fallen dramatically in most industrialized countries in the last ten years because of effective therapy, contact tracing, and changes in sexual practices since the advent of the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). In contrast, in developing countries the prevalence is high or increasing as a result of both the lack of facilities for diagnosis and of suitable antimicrobial therapy.
