The Virtual Library II: Science Citation Index and Current Awareness Services

This chapter continues the discussion on searching the biomedical literature on the Internet started in Chapter 26. We will discuss searching the Science Citation Index as an adjunct to the information available in MEDLINE , and the use of current awareness services such as the Current Contents database and tables-of-contents alerting services, to obtain timely updates of the literature as it is published. The chapter concludes with a discussion of bibliographic management software and how it can be incorporated into the research process.
