在哺乳类的卵巢中，次级性索即卵巢索，不久即被结缔组织从生殖上皮分离开来，将成为卵泡上皮的细胞和由原始卵混合而成的块，游离在结缔组织中，这种块称为 Waldeyer′ s卵泡， Waldeyer′ s卵泡再被结缔组织分隔开一些小块，结果形成由一个卵包围着它的一层卵泡上皮所构成的原始卵泡。
