Neuronal networks can be properly analyzed in experimental preparations that preserve the largest connectivity within and
between brain structures. The isolated whole guinea pig brain maintained in vitro by arterial perfusion is ideal for this
purpose. The methods and techniques utilized to study brain networks in this preparation are reviewed in this chapter. The
advantages, potentials, and limitations for the study of pathological activity in models of acute (and chronic) cerebral diseases,
such as epilepsy and ischemia, are also discussed.
