通过用氯化铯等密度梯度离心法（平衡密度梯度法）所求的高分子物质的密度。由于在浓盐溶液中产生溶媒混合，所以与在稀盐溶液中的密度不一定相同。碱基组成不同的（GC含量不同）DNA，其浮力密度不同。
