is now recognized as a model organism for research in plant biology, especially genetics and molecular biology, and is used
for the functional analyses of various genes. However, genomic DNA sequence data reveal that a large number of Arabidopsis
genes remain functionally uncharacterized, that means that a reverse-genetic approach will become important for characterizing
gene functions. One of the most promising strategies for reverse genetics is based on insertional mutagenesis.
